The piece below was submitted to Jude on Sunday, when the DOGS’ BREAKFASTS cooked by unprincipled and irresponsible politicians in both these islands suggested the comments made. The withdrawal of the bird-brained challenger for the Tory leadership doesn’t invalidate the comments made then. Both islands are in Terrible States of Moral and Political Chassis which pose questions which don’t have a Darlin’ Answer. Sorry, Joxer.!
I remember my brother laughing at a typed report, dictated by a Corkman , which recorded that a meeting had been abandoned for a lack of decorum. The meeting had been inquorate..
With Britain’s Labour Party torn between a Parliamentary faction which couldn’t assemble a quorum to support Jeremy Corbyn, and an extra-parliamentary majority of forty-shilling free-loaders organising a MOMENTUM MORI Poll, decorum seems to have taken a powder.
The Government, or the squabbling fuck-wits scuttling the ship of state, are in no better shape. You’d think they were following a script by Mel Brooks, if Brooks had been on crack cocaine.
THE GUARDIAN’S contribution to the Gaiety of Nations is to exult that Britain’s next Prime Minister will be a woman. So whether the Prime Minister is a clueless airhead or a competent leader does not matter. Hail Vagina! And give THE GUARDIAN your Muff-Led applause!
Ireland, or at least that part of it which elects its own Head of State, and whose citizens have enacted a Constitution, and alone have the power to mend it, would, you might think, present a less crazy spectacle than today’s Britain.
But you’d think wrong, for Ireland’s ruling politicians could supply a quorum of fuck-wits to rival any assembly in the world. Take John Halligan TD a Junior Minister. Before being raised to that height he demanded that Deputies ignore morality and support abortion. I may be wrong for I
think that morality, principle and ethics are synonymous. The Attorney General recently advised the Government that to support a Bill that conflicted with the Constitution would be in conflict with the fundamental law enacted by the people. The Constitution also requires that
Government Ministers, including Junior ones, must be agreed on legislation. But Deputy Halligan and other fuck-wits in the Dail have said they don’t care about the Constitution. So, if you are a child in the womb, or an adult citizen and part-proprietor of the Constitution, Deputy Halligan and his ill-intentioned ilk are not your friends. They include Deputy Shane Ross, who is also a Government Minister, who is on record for describing Patrick Pearse as a “terrorist.”
Pearse was not a terrorist, and when he fought, he fought armed men his own size.
Pearse was not a terrorist, and when he fought, he fought armed men his own size.
Brilliant piece of writing. Sums up the anti abortion struggle and the national struggle for freedom perfectly. Wish I had thought of it.
I always enjoy your posts Donal – be they musings, or very informative pieces (ie: Theresa (now out on her arse) Villiers – and her family background – which brought quite a WTF! from this direction).
I can’t quite understand what your problem seems to be with ‘THE GUARDIAN’ though. A Newspaper (in all senses of the word), that kept me sane through my teenage years, right up to my late 30’s (when i moved over to Ireland), when all around was a sea of dross and utter shite gutter ‘journalism’ – held in the grasp (and even more so now) of a few ‘individuals’, ie: Murdoch, the Barclay Brothers et al.
One ‘Paper re: ‘Brexit’ gave out all the pro’s / con’s – didn’t weigh in with screaming bullshit / racist etc front pages (and plenty more inside – though the sheeple only needed their ‘Vote-Ometer’ decided by glancing at the front pages, all laid out in a line at the Newsagents, Corner Shops etc – as if printed by ‘The Ministry Of Truth’).
The Guardian wasn’t one of them.
And it still keeps me sane, with decent journalism over here, down past Dublin. Safe in the knowledge that when i manage to get out (and having a day semi-free from screaming pain, due to a dozen disabilities, or not having slept a wink the night before), i can go to my local Bookshop / Cafe – and pick up a copy to read with my brew – ignoring the ‘DOB’ ‘titles’ on display, and also the aforementioned dross that’s made their way over here – The utter, utter worst, without a shadow of a doubt (and bought in droves, by hell knows who – or why – wishful, wannabee middle-classes maybe?) – ‘The Irish Mail’ / ‘Sunday Mail’. – That’s who deserves your ire Donal.
Other than that – and in no way connected with this post you’ve made Donal, i’d like to unsubscribe. Mainly because i can’t cope with the volume of blogs being posted re: my worsening health – and an ever overloaded ‘inbox’ in my e-mail account. As mentioned, i’ve thoroughly been enjoying, intrigued and amazed since you joined Jude’s ‘Team’ – but there’s so many of yours, Jude’s and others that i’ve yet to open and read (as well as other mail).
I also posted to Jude recently to ask if he could get in touch (regarding this), but just got a ‘your post is awaiting moderation’. Also, i was somewhat unhappy (and taken aback), following a slight rebuke from Jude, after i posted a response directly to another ‘poster’ who, the week after the Brexit, made what i felt to be a disgusting and utterly disgraceful comment regarding the murdered MP Jo Cox (which i was very surprised Jude allowed). Continuous banal and racist comments from someone else, plus regular diatribes from another commenter / sometimes ‘guest blogger’, whereby The North / South / UK (or what’s left of it) get savaged (rightly or wrongly), but descend into a ‘to and fro’ 20-30 comments long with another commenter, become quite tedious, along with the often “I f**king hate the…”, that usually goes alongside.
I’ve enjoyed some brilliant, funny, eye-opening, jaw-dropping – more than i can describe in terms, blogs from Jude, paddy-K, yourself – and many guests since i first ‘signed-up’. – But worsening health – and the above mentioned, i need a break. – No doubt to ‘pop in’ at the odd time, to check – ‘off grid’ – a Month, and the prose therein.
To Jude, paddy-K and your good-self,
sláinte, saibhreas agus sonas
(Of which two are of most importance – though a few quid landing in yer lap isn’t to be sniffed at!)
If Jude needs clarification re: the un-subscription, no problem if he wants to contact me – though the above (latter) pretty much explains it – and i wanted to do it on a ‘quiet blog post’ – of which this was one.
John – tá bron orm – my apologies if your initial request for unsubscription got lost in the heat of battle. I’ll attend to it right now. Sorry to lose you and I do hope you’ll be back, frequently or even unfrequently. Re The Guardian – I agree with you in general – it’s the one British paper I’ve read on a regular basis for the last forty years. However, it’s not always a beacon of enlightenment: back in the day when the Malvinas storm blew up, the Guardian along with all the other British press went with the ‘support our boys’ line, all critical thinking abandoned. They’ve done something suspiciously similar in the Jeremy Corbyn case. You raise an interesting couple of other points that I wish you’d elaborate on (preferably in a guest blog): can there be too many blogs going up and can there be too many comments arising from the blog? Plus, should arguments between individuals be allowed to continue without check, and should those commenting be allowed/free to say “I hate ‘ whatever the person/party may be? I really would appreciate hearing your views and those of any other readers – I want this blogsite to be as interesting and as efficient as possible. If we’re slopping over into quantity at the cost of quality, I’d like to know, and know what people think should be done about it. A set of ground rules, maybe? Anyway, I’m sorry you’re leaving, John, and I sorry to hear of your continued ill-health. Whether staying a subscriber would help your mental health, I’ll leave to others…
