The following fully
personalized letter is going to all Members of Congress, House and Senate.
It surely reflects what is in the hearts, dreams and prayers of
Irish-Americans. It is entirely consistent with the Good Friday Agreement
and with American principles:respect for international human rights, democracy
and national self- determination.
It will be published as an Internet Petition and will be the on-going, constant campaign of all true and authentic Irish-Americans, because who could reasonably disagree with it? We urge all Irish-Americans to inundate their U.S. Senators and U.S. Representatives—and indeed all their elected State officials—to get behind this eminently reasonable, just and fair Petition. Sign up, join us in this noble effort, and let your voice be heard all across America and the world, that Ireland, too, has the right to be One Nation…
God bless America and God save Ireland.” —Fr. Sean McManus
PETITIONING MEMBERS OF CONGRESS TO SUPPORT THE PRINCIPLE THAT IRELAND, TOO, HAS
THE RIGHT TO BE “ONE NATION UNDER GOD, INDIVISIBLE, WITH LIBERTY AND JUSTICE FOR ALL.”
The Honorable [ Full name]
The Honorable [Full name]
U.S. House of Representatives
Dear Senator/ Representative [last name]
Irish-Americans —over 30 million of them— implicitly, and in their hearts and prayers, support the principle: “Ireland, too, has the right to be one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.”
We respectfully ask you to stand in solidarity with us and publicly support this Petition.
It is a Petition for full Human Rights, Equality, Justice, and Reconciliation for the island of Ireland (all 32 Counties), based on non-violence, non-discrimination, solidarity, and mutual respect.
This is entirely consistent with the Good Friday Agreement and reflects the spirit of The Beloved Community, as taught by Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. And, furthermore, national self- determination is a fundamental American principle and is the right of every Nation. This, also, is the perfect way to leave all of Ireland’s precious 32 Counties in the European Union, which has been so good for all the people of Ireland, and which is overwhelmingly supported by the vast majority of people on the whole island of our beloved Ireland.
Moreover, there is no constituency in the United States that advocates for a divided, partitioned Ireland, so, therefore, it is reasonable to assume that a free, United Ireland is the dream and prayer of all Irish-Americans.
This is probably the easiest thing you have ever been asked to support, but it is, nonetheless, of real importance. Please honor Irish-Americans with your solidarity, for as St. Pope John Paul II has taught us “peace is the fruit of solidarity.” (“Solicitude for social concerns.”.39. 1988).
Your response —or lack thereof—will be very widely spread among Irish-Americans.
God bless America, and God save Ireland.
