Both men saved innocent human lives during the Second World War.
Bernadotte was tasked with arranging exchanges of Allied and Axis military
prisoners.. He also secured the release of civilians from German concentration
camps, saving their lives. Hundreds of Jews were amongst those saved. As a
humanitarian and a human being his name deserves remembrance.
Raoul Wallenburg saved many thousands of innocent people, mainly Jews,
from murder by the Nazis. He disappeared in 1945 and was believed to have been
murdered in Russia by the KGB
.Neither the place nor the date of his death has been established. He is
widely, and correctly, remembered as a hero. Unfortunately, in the Western, aka
” Free World” the First Refuge of Scoundrels is Anti-Communism (think
Churchill, Mussolini, Hitler, J Edgar Hoover and Joe McCarthy) and those in
Britain who have been most vociferous in praising Wallenburg are scoundrels who
should never be enticed to breathe the name of Bernadotte.
For the date of Bernadotte’s death is known, as is the place, as is the name of
the man who ordered it. Bernadotte was ill-served by his murderers and
continues to be ill-served
by their supporters.
Bernadotte was murdered on 17 September 1948 in Jerusalem on the orders of
Yitzhak Shamir, who later served two terms as President of Israel. Bernadotte
had been appointed by the United Nations Security Council to negotiate peace
between Jews and Arabs in Palestine.
