PAT+JUDE TALK ABOUT DAIL DUELS, THE ECONOMIC HEALTH NORTH AND SOUTH, CLIMATE CRISIS, & FUEL POVERTY

The exchanges between FG and SF are getting nastier – witness the exchange recently in the Dail between Pearse Doherty and Leo Varadkar. Is this symptomatic of the differing personalities… Or is it ideology?

Or both?

The economist David McWilliams had an article in The Irish Times where he showed, with facts and figures, how the beating economic heart of Ireland, once to be found in Belfast, now is beating strong and clear in Dublin. Shouldn’t those in favour of a united Ireland use these figures in discussing a new Ireland?

Today is a beautiful sunny day. How many of us think beyond that to the fact that the world is staggering into a climate melt-down? All the signs are there. Is it enough to appeal to people’s better nature? Or should governments, who presumably want to save the planet, pass laws which ensure that it will?

And finally fuel  poverty – great swathes of people no longer can afford to run a car with the price of petrol or heat their homes with the price of oil and gas. What to do? Maybe we need to remember the days when our houses didn’t have central heating and few people had cars – yet we all survived.

These and other weighty matters are dealt with by Pat and myself. Take a break – take our podcast…
