PAT+JUDE TA;LK ABOUT THE WORLD CUP, ELON MUSK, AND THE DEMISE OFTHE PUB

Today, Pat and I managed just three topics in our podcast/vlog (we should have a competition to see what we should call it, although on second thoughts…)

Anyway. Today we explored the World Cup. Was Qatar a good place to hold it? Should players and commentators have agree to participate? And if you think Qatar has a bad reputation for respecting human rights, should you even watch it on TV?Or does it matter two flying  cornflakes if you do or not?

That Elon Musk – hugely rich and hugely ignorant. He buys Twitter and promptly fires half the staff, and warns the rest they must sign up to ghastly hours of intense work. Have you ever worked for that kind of boss?

And finally – is eating in and drinking in (at home, I mean) on the up, and have people suddenly realised  that eating and drinking at home is an awful lot cheaper?

Plus – is a cashless society a threat to privacy?

We’re a day late but we’re back in business. Click that triangle.

“Igor” is far from unique in compulsory redundancies: elsewhere another company with employees in Ireland has “suggested” their cadres take 3 months unpaid “leave” in the company’s greater interests – inflation, poor sales figures. The precariat & zero contract policies have turned the clock back a century so far as workers’ conditions and security are concerned, with little or no protest from ANY politician.

More generally, in addition to the above victims, perhaps there is some way in which the victims , from Paul Quinn to the victims of a century’s and more Church clerical abuse , can themselves be blamed? The theologians and knowall prattling sociologues should be able to conjure up something deft.
A bit more truly impartial iconoclastic dissent and healthy scepticism needed , generally .
