Jeffrey Donaldson and Paul Givan – Givan particularly – have in recent days been loud about the fact that they’ve met with and talked to Dáithí MacGabhann’s family. They presumably see their conversation as a plus, so I’m wondering what they said.
Jeffrey: As a Christian, I feel your pain, Mr McGowan.
Paul: I’m a Christian too and I feel your pain intensely, and would like to help you.
Máirtín: Oh please – would you? We’re terrified on behalf of our son Dáithí.
Jeffrey: We’re both here to help.
Paul: You can trust in us – and trust in God.
Máirtín: There’s really only one thing I want you to do.
Jeffrey: Anything
Paul: We’re Christians and we love you and your son.
Máirtín: Oh I’m so so relieved. So you’ll meet in Stormont today and trigger that legislation, which will increase enormously Dáithí’s chances of getting a transplant.
Jeffrey: Oh.
Paul : Ah
Jeffrey: I’m afraid we can’t do that.
Paul: No can do. I feel devastated for you.
Máirtín: Why not?
Jeffrey: It’s a matter of principle. We told our voters we’d get rid of the protocol.
Paul: And that’s what we’ll do. With God on our side.
Máirtín: What are you talking about? Is God not on Dáithí’s side?
Jeffrey: Oh He is.
Paul: Definitely.
Jeffrey: But we can’t let down our electorate.
Paul: That’d be two-faced.
Máirtín: But all I want is for you to go into Stormont and trigger the law. After that – the next day – you can go on saying No to Stormont.
Jeffrey: You don’t seem to understand. We made a pact with our people.
Paul: They would never respect us again.
Máirtín: So the respect of your electorate means more than my son’s life?
Jeffrey: That’s very offensive of you to say that.
Paul: We’re hurt. Even a bit outraged.
Jeffrey: How can you inflict such pain on us?
Paul: Have you no feelings, Mr McGowan?
Máirtín: It’s MacGabhann. And may God forgive the pair of you.
Jeffrey and Paul in unison: Of course He will. God’s on our side.
Oh what are the DUP doing, is the fear of crossing the doors to there place of employment to do the right thing .Do the right thing and get this law passed,
Very good Jude
Thank you, James…
