You’d think nothing could knock Gaza from the main news item, but both RTÉ and BBC led their main evening news with the situation on the streets of Dublin. Was this an ‘existential threat to democracy’ or a nasty, cruel act which shouldn’t be inflated into a national crisis? Discuss. Or rather, we’ll discuss for you.
In Holland, they’ve just elected a party led by a fair-haired man called Wilders, who is anti-immigrant, anti-EU, right-wing as they come. Is he part of a lurch to the right that’s happening everywhere – Turkey, Poland, Hungary, US, UK? Or will he pipe down because otherwise he’ll not be able to find a partner for forming a government?
And is Peter Robinson’s talk of the DUP needing to accept that you never get all of what you want – is that smoothing the path for a return to Stormont?
