PAT+JUDE TALK ABOUT JP MCMANUS, BEING AJOURNALIST, LIBEL LAWS & SF, AND A KILLING IN PAT’S BOOK…

J P McManus is an Irish  billionaire. He has also given away an awful lot of money to the GAA in every county in Ireland. Some clubs will receive as much as £30,000. Is this a case of a truly generous man, or is he simply dodging taxation while looking good in the public eye?

The Irish Times has an article lamenting the pressures on journalists today, and points an accusing finger at Sinn Féin for the way that party has hampered journalists with threats of libel cases. This, according to the paper’s editor, is or could be a threat to democracy. Is this the case, or have the pigeons  come home to roost?

Finally, Pat expands on an incident described in his book where his paper, The Derry Journal, reported the outing of an IRA informer who next day was found shot dead. Pat felt some kind of responsibility for the informer’s death; I disagree completely.

Head-to-head stuff. Make this a thrilling Friday and press the triangle – oh, and tell everybody you know what a treat this dialogue of ours is twice weekly, and how every home should have a copy of War, Peace and the Derry Journal  by Pat McArt….
