PAT+JUDE TALK ABOUT PAT’S BOOK LAUNCH LAST NIGHT, SHANE MCGOWAN, & BACK TO THE GAZA SLAUGHTER

Last night was a lively night in Derry’s Guildhall. Once the bastion of unionism in Derry, last night it was the McArt bastion, as Pat launched his book to a hall lan go doras – full to the door. I’d like to feel a reflection of the success, but McArt is keeping it ALL TO HIMSELF….Grrr

Ireland in recent days lost a man who wasn’t even born in Ireland and who attended an English public school. Shane McGowan left us, but he left an undying legacy of some marvellous songs – my favourites being ‘A Fairy Tale of New York’ and ‘Rainy Night in Soho’. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam  – may he rest in peace.

Meanwhile, back in Gaza, Israel is resuming the slaughter. But will countries that sympathised with Israel originally now be sickened? Could it be that the Palestinians are in fact the ones who’ll ultimately triumph when the world demands a two-state solution? Or even better, a one-state secular solution.

The ending is a bit sudden (British intelligence, no doubt) but fret not, we’ll be back on Monday….
