PAT+JUDE TALK ABOUT THE SOUTH’S ELECTIONS, CLAIRE HANNA’S POSTER, AND IRISH-SPEAKING IN ORANGEFIELD

Well, it looks like Sinn Féin were the big losers in the South’s local and European elections last week. What were the reasons for the sudden plunge in votes for Sinn Féin? Could it be linked to the number of Independents elected to councils throughout the South?

In South Belfast, some young ruffians were seen to be stealing a poster of the SDLP’s Claire Hanna. A passing SDLP guy noticed this, hopped out of his car and told them to drop the poster. The world stood still for a moment. And then they did what they were told. Phew!

Joe Kennedy, who’s a special US envoy here, was to appear at an event in support of Magee College, where the university is centred. When he heard there was going to be a pro-Palestinian demonstration, he opted out. Was he right to do so?

And finally, there are reports that a Gaelscoil is to be based in Orangefield, in East Belfast. Does this growth of interest in Irish, promoted by Linda Ervine, mean that the unionist working class is becoming less unionist?

So many questions on a Monday morning. Relax – we’ll do the thinking for you….
