It seems to me that the USA, BRITAIN and their puppets are hellbent on it.
Russia does not now, and did not in the Soviet era pose any threat to western
countries nor their legitimate interests. The Soviets, when the Brits were trying
to throttle their State at birth co-operated with Ireland’s democratically elected
Republic. then other similar attack, but when the Brits quit Russia, made peace
with their enemy, their successor state still maintains under President Putin.
States do not have friends, only interests, as Lord Salisbury remarked.
Hugh O’Neill looked to Spain for help and got it when it was in Spain’s
interest. When it was no longer in Spain’s interest he was not wanted in Spain
and died in Rome without help fro Spain or the Pope.
President Putin has made no claims on Ireland’s territory or territorial seas
and is not even a putative enemy.
But Ireland’s elected leaders (excluding the President) and public officials
and Defence Force officers seem to regard their current duties as apprenticeships
for better paid ones with the irregular and irresponsible bastard changeling “Europe”
Is Prayer the answer?
It seems, that like myself, the Deity is hard of hearing,
How many nations have prayed God to send the British Army to Hell and to keep it
there?
And they only went to HELMAND PROVINCE.
No man is an island, and in terms of military alliances and statecraft neither is any nation. The current game changer is the prospect of a Trump-Vance presidency that is very much isolationist and focused on Asia-Pacific rather than Europe. Western Europe will have to increasingly fall back on its own military capabilities and no longer take US military largesses as a gimme. Trump has signalled that the new Russian-Ukrainian borders are a done deal and the US has little interest in Putin’s backyard. Poland and the Baltics are understandably nervous.
Ireland in the future may have to review its military commitments, in line with its European partners. It may continue with the present policy of relying on the RAF and Royal Navy to defend its airspace and territorial waters. It may even continue to provide a lot of the manpower for the British armed forces – the number of Dubs in the Royal Irish is significant. However, with American withdrawal and Putin’s assertiveness, a review may be necessary.
I agree that traditionally the West has threatened Russia more than in reverse gear. The West has invaded Russia on three occasions – Napoleon, Wilhelm I and Hitler. During their Great Patriotic War the Soviet peoples lost 27 million in their unparalleled sacrifices against the invading Wehrmacht. However, much has changed.
Sorry, I meant Wilhelm II. Always dangerous to type without reading glasses on!
