I was at Hornsey Library yesterday . When I worked there it had thousands of ancient
periodicals which would fetch millions if sold individually but they have been thrown out as junk.
A copy of the Illustrated London News showed dozens of photos of Irish, some of whom
jumped on top of the carriage containing Dev. That was nearly 2 years before the birth
of John Lennon and 18 years since Dev had packed Madison Square Garden, sports
stadia across the States and had civic receptions in State and City headquarter
And Dev in 1938 had 25 further years of triumph and glory to enjoy.
I have not been in the British Library for years. But I’m sure that there must be some way
to access such pictures and that somewhere there is a movie archive of the Euston welcome
Perhaps some younger contacts at Aubane and elsewhere could chase such photographics up.
Perhaps it’s time for both dramatic and documentary films doing justice to Dev
and, as they say, fucking the Begrudgers.
