Because you know you’re going to encounter something that smells a bit, doesn’t really take away from its stink when you come up against it. Talk Back on the B(ritish)BC couldn’t afford to allow Nolan’s show to be the only one sticking it to the Shinners, and so today we had some forty minutes of moral outrage with Sinn Féin.
For what, you ask, Virginia? You know the answer to that – for expelling a man who was found to have been guilty of child sex abuse. And no, sorry Virginia, I’m like you – I’d have thought that was a pretty commendable step to take. But it seems that wasn’t enough. The guilty man got not one but two references from Sinn Féin scribblers, and said scribblers delivered the references with no permission from anyone in Sinn Féin. The Shinners started researching into these references, but before they could finish the job, both Sinn Féin scribblers had quit their jobs and the party.
So how were the Talkback talkers able to chew the arm and leg off Sinn Féin, given these facts? I’m a bit baffled too but they somehow managed it. Seems that in an earlier interview, SF’s Conor Murphy felt that the British Heart Foundation, which employed the abuser before he was convicted, could have done due diligence before they hired him. Once more sounded like massive common sense to me, but not to the Talkback Three. It seems Sinn Féin should have got on the phone and told the British Heart Foundation about their new employee. Seriously? I employ someone who it emerges he’s a creep and so I get rid of him. Am I then supposed to check out where he is and how he’s getting on, so I can blow the whistle?
Michelle O’Neill also spoke in a recorded clip which again sounded fairly sensible to me, but the TT figured she really should come into the Talkback studio and state her case. Sort of royal command performance thing.
Oh, and this whole thing obviously involves Mary Lou McDonald, ‘cos she’s the president of Sinn Féin. This last command performance led to a brief Talkback discussion over which were more ‘dynamic’, the media in the South or the media in the North. That’s dynamic as in Shinner-bashing. Always good to augment the vocabulary.
In this as in many matters, timing is everything. You may remember how Gerry Adams was arrested and held for several days before being released, in the mouth of an election a few year sback.
It must be seriously frustrating to the dynamic media, North and South, that they can’t just arrest McDonald and no more messing. Then again, I think I remember, Sinn Féin went on to do really well in the election which followed Gerry’s arrest; so maybe, however satisfying it might be, it’s a god-send that they can’t lock her up.To coin a phrase.
The ghost of Bobby Storey must be quietly smiling and murmuring to the Shinners “Relax, guys – they did it to me too. Or tried”.
And could that possibly be the wraith of Senator Joe McCarthy i see, panting a little, running towards the scene of the crime?
Virtually every major party, north and south have been caught in sex abuse scandals, and not just the clergy and convents. Jeffrey Donaldson has declared his innocence of the claims made. He could be right. How can we tell?
Well, the

Corporation, probably thought The battle ravaged & Deflated DUP have had enough bombardments these last few Months. So they and the other Shinner Bashers in our local media have decided to try and make a Silk purse out of a Pigs ear….
Paul Clarke over at “UTV” can barely disguise his disdain when interrogating sorry interviewing SF people. He was at it again the other night, asking the questions in a staccato pitch, compare and contrast with his chat with Mike Nesbitt. Stephen Nolan’s programme on Wednesday night was basically just a televised kicking for SF. Quite funny really, no wonder they have decided to boycott the big man. Thanks to the wonders of modern day television I can fast forward the propaganda. This method is also very useful for any appearances by crazy MAGA types or Liz Truss.
When you sup with the devil you should use a long spoon. Sorry, you must use a long spoon. That’s what happens when you try to become an establishment party.
Good to see the TUV getting in on the act. Some of us can still remember.
No matter what Sinn Fein do, Jude will defend them. They are like a cult.
No, they are the biggest political party in the north although the way they are treated you would think they were the same size as the TUV.
The unionist media are STILL flogging that dead horse. I suppose it gives Bobby Storey’s funeral a rest.
Very good jude free Palestine
