The South’s election – does Fianna Fail deserve all those seats? Are Sinn Féin facing a barrier of FF and FG that will keep them out of government forever? Will there be rumblings in Sinn Féin about the performance of Mary Lou McDonald (elected on 3rd count, didn’t bring a SF colleague in her slipstream) whereas for example Pearse Doherty got a huge vote, elected on first count, and brought a SF colleague with him?
Why did the media flock to greet Gerard ‘The Monk’ Hutch? Why did people vote for him? And is there any comparison between the attention he gets in the media and the attention the Healy-Raes get?
Finally, Ed Sheeran and Mary Robinson think ‘Do They Know It’s Christmas?’ – largely the work of Bob Geldof – is patronising and even insulting for people in Africa. Do you agree?
We’re back – maybe not electorally but virtually. So tune in, turn on and drop out…
Have a look at the age breakdown of the voters for each age cohort in the future xit poll.
25-34 were the highest for SF, followed by 18-24.
35-49 were at the average for all 3 major parties.
50-64 and 65+ voted along civil war lines, and as if SF ere the RA…
FFG are hanging on by what is left of their ageing rusted ons, who will shuffle off in increasing numbers over the next 5 years. (May you and I live to see it…)
The future belongs to the young. Perhaps it is time for Pearse to move into the leadership, with Mary Lou as Deputy, as she is too good to let go altogether. With her husband having cancer she is entitled to step back a bit. Whatever else, she has taken SF to the position of the second largest party in the 26 Counties, that’s no small accomplishment!
