Matt Diskin is spiked by the Irish Times. Quelle surprise!

Sir,

Having read The Lancet’s latest shocking report in The Guardian on the revised numbers of civilian causalities in Gaza, it’s very reasonable to ask why the TV news media in particular have barely mentioned it at all; in stark.contrast to its current saturation coverage of the raging fires in California, which  are relatively miniscule in comparison to the tragic loss of life in Gaza?

And while I most certainly do not wish to diminish the loss of anyone’s life, nonetheless, it never ceases to amaze me how the TV news media’s double standards have increasingly become so blatantly biased in its the coverage– or often lack of it– of relentlessly rising the death toll in Gaza.

On the one hand, what we’re seeing  on our screens here is focused on the devastation of the houses of the mosty well-heeled in California (with aerial footage that could at times be eerily mistaken for Gaza!) which is largely the result of a combination of human error and climate change.

While on the other hand, what’s happening on a vastly greater scale in Gaza is the direct result of a clinically planned and executed, premeditated military policy of mass murder at the behest of the deranged extreme right-wing Zionist war criminal, Benjamin Netanyahu, who leads a regime  that is currently funded and is in turn supported by the AIPAC-controlled Biden administration.

Its a truly mind-boggling comparison– especially when nobody knows what even greater madness lies ahead when Trump takes over?

Ironically, the only hope is that this latest double standard will  prove to be yet another example ( amongst many!) which have  contributed to the  raising of the political consciousness of a new generation of activists on an international scale probably not seen since the days of the Vietnam War .

Mr. Diskin, it’s surely a badge of honour to be ‘spiked’ by the mainstream media, albeit frustrating as hell knowing it is symptomatic of the very complicity you are describing.

What they’ve been doing during the last few weeks is touting the so-called cease-fire negotiations which serve as a distraction from news about the unceasing Israeli bombing campaign, in particular the destruction of a hospital and murder or arrest of the medical personnel and the journalists reporting it.
