Charlie Chaplin and Dermot Morgan and other comedians across the world
and over many decades had millions rolling in the aisles imitating Adolf Hitler.
Hitler was a monster. He had, at best, the social graces of Donald Trump.
He was poorly schooled and unlike better men did not improve his learning.
He recognised one glaring truth. A relative handful of Brits could rule
hundreds of millions of Indians, and other people by murder, terror and
trickery. He virtually worshipped Britain’s ruling elite.
Nobody gets a laugh about Goebbels, a much more clever man than
his leader. He normally spoke with a pleasant voice, unlike his ranting
leader. He recognised the mendacity of British leaders and imitated
them. A more chilling brute than his boss.
Incidentally there is one surviving record of Hitler speaking with a normal
voice. It was when visiting Finland to congratulate its President , Field Marshal
Mannerheim (his ally) on his 75th Birthday. A rarely recognised episode
in the amnesiac West.
