Somebody’s having a laugh ….right? I know Norneverland is the land that time forgot ;the land where the magical toadstool in the sky emanates its rays of madness and moonshine ; a place where all the denizens have been damaged by the gloomy clouds of rain -radiation laden , sodden, nuttiness, permanently hanging overhead.Indeed a place where the tribes annually make offertory fires to the sky gods and march incessently to proclaim their servitude.
Near a home somewhere in the land, in a place quaintly named Carrickfergus…possibly appelated in honour of that long-forgotten dirge that was sung by ancient sailors some fifteen long centuries ago while they pined for lost lands and lost loves….”I wish I was in Carricferg……”, someone has erected a Union Jack, A Southern American Confederate flag and a German Swastika. There they hang theatrically as a set-piece, together ; hands across the world , sharing their ancient ideologies , although miles apart in distance. That’s what I would call covering every eventuality and proclaiming your utter lunacy to the wiles of the four winds. The flags fluttered balefully near the site of one of the neo- pagan bonfires ,erected each year to appease the many -headed spirits that stalk the night-time skies..
Many beyond Norneverland are asking themselves what are the arcane connections between these occult symbols and what is their mystical power. Why would anyone bother to buy and display such things, if not to ward off the demons that plague them like the ancient scapulars still worn by the religiously inclined . It occurs to me me that similarly decorated scapulars may still be worn at night-time by these same natives , or permanently as small medallions , wrist ornaments, or possibly even as indelible tattoos. They might not be removed even while bathing , all the more to offer the protection they obviously infer.
Sociologists may yet need to make a deeper study of these curious tribes and their strange and ancient rites to better understand the cultural adherence to so much assorted symbolism.

Harry, a well written piece, but by seeking any logic in the dolly mixture flag display in Carrick-on-Sewer, I think you are in need of help.
Logic and loyalist have no connection whatsoever!
Help me , Sherdy …help!!
the picture is amazing but it does indeed tell much of what the hoisters of said symbols want others to perceive as their “supremacy” be that white, Christian?, or Empiric, I guess. I’ve heard that Israeli flags are sometimes flown along with union jacks in certain areas of the north – now that would’ve been a really crazy sight if the brains behind the pictured flags had included the national flag of Israel.
so much symbolism – so little sense.
There’s time yet sarah m…You might see an ISIS flag appearing too. These guys just love their flags…
Is this a homemade Nazi flag or are they available over the counter or online?
Now that might be an opening for a new cottage industry, eh? I suppose the same people who crank out all those other “banned” flags and banners which we see flying everywhere could put you right on where best to purchase such an item. I’d imagine a quick search on the internet might bag you one …or failing that you might find one at a market stall in Norneverland. Somebody must be making them in a garden shed somewhere….
Although the flying of these flags together may initially appear incomprehensible to a stranger , their purpose is solely to intimidate and terrorize …..The Union flag (butcher’s apron) is synonymous with British imperialistic genocide , the Swastika , ( although originally a Sanskrit word meaning ‘good luck’ ) will be forever entwined with the extermination of 6 million Jews and the Confederate Battle flag , unfortunately has been misappropriated to mean racism and the KKK….The three together are a potent mixture representing ultimate evil .
Yes …I had a pretty convoluted conversation with a lady from Texas, some days ago , who didn’t seem to get the gist of this “evolving” nature of symbols like the Swastika or the Confederate flag for two examples. As you point out , in past times , they may have meant one simple thing but their meaning went through changes…. the swastika symbol being perfectly fine before the Nazis got around to sullying it with their racist genocide. Now it means only one thing .
