“Only one outing with the camera this week and it was to Castle Ward. First photo is of a young girl standing in the walled garden as the heavens opened. As I was taking the tour of the house this group of kids ran up to the window to stare in at us which I thought made for a good photo. I have frogs at my place which are all green to help them blend in with the lush green fields around me but the fogs at Castle Ward are brown because the pine needles of Scots Pine turn brown when they fall. Amazing how nature adapts to its surroundings. ”

” Pic 4 ( taken by my brother, Caoimhín) : Fr Harry Coyle, one of the most distinguished academics in the Irish language, who was awarded an Honorary Degree by the University of Ulster this week. One of academia’s most self-effacing scholars , he is credited with 70+ publications. Derryman Harry was the recipient of a State Exhibition and studied Celtic under the illustrious Dr Henrik Wagner at Queen’s. He taught at St Patrick’s Academy in Dungannon, taking a break to study for the priesthood in Maynooth. He now lives quietly and modestly in a care home in Moneymore. ”
Pic 5 is Camilla, a potter in the beautiful Fife village of Culross. She studied photography at art school and worked in advertising and documentary for many years before she re-trained in ceramics..
Pic 6 is Roberto, a native of Puglia who has been a waiter in Edinburgh for 37 years. He is married to a Scot and has a grown-up son. Like many European immigrants, who have made an enormous contribution to the British economy, he finds BREXIT depressing because of the strong anti-immigrant undertone. The Scottish Government, however, operates an inclusive policy and wants immigration to become a devolved matter. It recognises that a wide range of skills is essential to the future growth and prosperity of this country. Roberto is a valued part of that.
