Good Luck, Good Luck for Christmas.
It’s coming down the tracks.
With teddy bears and grey hairs.
It’s coming to your shack.
A ragged, patched old parcel.
He’s knocking at your door.
He used to wear some forest green
But this red man gives you more.
All cabled up and streaming
To go along with colds.
The more you want, the more he gives.
It’s hard to keep control.
So, good luck, you’re going to need it
To wear that happy face.
To hand shake your relations
All welcomed to your place.
The rush and hairy hustle
All muscled and tattooed.
Does Christmas seem just different?
It’s not the thing I knew.
But, as each generation
Interprets what they love.
I’ll go and get offside now, as I give Christmas a shove.
For it’s waiting like a sledge-ling
As it teeters at the top.
Consumption, ah consumption
It’s consumption til’ we drop.
So, good luck, good luck for Christmas.
I’ll give it one more bash.
I’ll go and spread some moolah
I’ll even flash the cash.
I’ll go and keep on giving
While I’m living here on earth.
To celebrate the Solstice
And the Holy Virgin’s birth.
I’ll even get the drinks in.
I might just get half cut.
I might just do Dad dancing
Like a reindeer on the rut.
I might just catch my breath now
In the cold with her beside.
I might just feel half lucky
That she became my bride.
For a moment
I might stop and see
Every bloody thing I have
To rise and face the new year
As Papa and a Dad.
Let some blessings fall upon me
Lighten up the heavy load
If I’m walking and not driving
I’ll have one more for the road
I could go on forever
with this poem without end
So i’ll leave you with a wave now
As I head on round the bend.
Happy Chistmas
Nollaig Shona.
