A year or more ago I emailed Jude saying that
Jeremy Corbyn hadn’t the qualities required for the leadership of a party
seeking power.
Not the subtlety of a de Valera nor the
serpentine cunning of a Harold Wilson nor the amoral cynicism of a Lloyd
George.
Nor the rhetorical brilliance of the charlatan,
Winston Churchill, who praised Mussolini for the rape of Abyssinia and,
as late as 1938,. declared, that if
Britain had been reduced to the state Germany had been in 1919,(by
Churchill, amongst others) he
would hope that Britain would have produced a
Hitler.
Corbyn has, consistently, over many decades,
sided with human beings, Jews and Gentiles, irrespective of skin colour
or political sympathies, who have suffered injustice. He has always supported
“Jaw.Jaw.against War, War” to quote
Winston Churchill, long before Queen Elizabeth
shook hands with Martin McGuinness.
Corbyn shares the conscience of Britain’s
most decent people, and the best of its Labour movement. But that does not
now, and never did, qualify him for the highest
political office.
The names of those who indulged in his character
assassination should live in infamy, even if an All Merciful Deity spares
them the eternal fires of Hell.
