OF PROPERTY BUT NO PRINCIPLES – IRELAND’S NATIONAL APOSTATES by Donal Kennedy

In 1840 the 25 year old Thomas Davis addressed the Historical Society of Trinity College, Dublin, the oldest undergraduate society in the world, founded by Edmund Burke, and once had Theobald Wolfe Tone as its Auditor.

“Gentlemen, you have a country”  he told his audience, all of them male, who, in a less barbarous age than our own, might be presumed gentlemen. Davis died from scarlet fever five years later, on the eve of the Great Hunger.

In those five years ,through political action  and through writings ,in prose and verse in “THE NATION”, he served country and nation heroically. In fact he saw our country and nation as synonymous, as did most of his countrymen until the apostasy of those  entrusted with its care in recent decades.

Patrick Pearse,  in his essay “Ghosts”, written just months before the 1916 Insurrection, invoked Wolfe Tone, Emmet, Davis and Fintan Lalor  as the Four Evangelists of Irish Nationality.

These days, the mainstream media and apostate politicians in Ireland abhor Tone, Emmet, Davis and Lalor and their principles They speak not of their Country or Nation but of an Island, which is to them no more than a piece of real estate. A  commodity, to be bought or sold for their own profit.  The country seems now be in thrall to the Men and Women of Property – but alas, of Sweet Fuck All Principles.
