Roger Casement, on discovering the British plot to destroy her trade rival, Germany, wrote about what he saw as the crime against Europe. The British Consul in Christiana (Oslo) tried to have him murdered in 1915. In 1916, when he was captured in Kerry, he was taken to London, and tried by an English jury, prosecuted by F E Smith who, two years earlier was himself organising an armed rebellion, before a judge who had been involved in shady dealings in Marconi shares, Following the that macabre trial Casement was murdered.
But his enemies were not satisfied with that, They made allegations about his private life, supposedly based on diaries. These diaries were never shown to anybody, a court, a tribunal, and they have never been deposited in Britain’s Public Record Office. Alleged typewritten transcripts were shown to persons who might have called a reprieve. So far as I know these alleged transcripts are not in the Public Records Office, and nobody who read them has quoted even a phrase from them.
Michael McDowell, a brilliant lawyer and former Attorney General and Justice Minister, apparently believes in the scurrilous allegations about Casement. But Jack Lane, in a courteous correspondence with him has demonstrated that there is not now, nor did there appear to be in 1916 any evidence of behaviour by Casement which would, during his lifetime, have scandalised a maiden aunt. The correspondence is reproduced in full in “Church and State -an Irish History Magazine and cultural review of Ireland and the world” 3rd Quarter 2020 published by Athol Books.
Julian Assange discovered US and other Government messages proving, that like Britain during her near twenty-year preparation for destroying Germany the US and her allies were plotting to attack Iraq under false pretences. Allegations of rape were raised in Sweden in an effort to have him extradited from Britain, but no charges were laid in their support. In order to lay charges Swedish prosecutors would have to produce evidence to put before a UK court. So the UK could not justify extradition. But the USA wanted Assange, dead or alive, for Assange had the US government “bang to rights.”
Hilary Clinton is reported to have asked “Can we drone him?” meaning Assange. Even the Americans then would be unlikely to murder Assange with a drone in London. Damascus or Baghdad or Beirut perhaps, but not London.
The Ecuadorian Embassy in London, where Assange sought refuge, employed a Spanish company which had links with the CIA to spy on him. He was confined to three rooms there in conditions which would break most men.
When evicted from the Embassy he was arrested on a US warrant and is confined in the maximum security Belmarsh Prison, in solitary confinement. Nobody so far has escaped from the prison.
Assange has never been convicted of any offence, not even a speeding or parking one. It appears that it is the intention of the American government and its British vassals that he die in prison.
His only crime is in taking the American Bill of Rights at face value – claiming free expression . Not just any expression, but expression of the truth.
(Incidentally, though the allegedly scandalous diaries of Casement have never surfaced in public, his pieces published on the Crime Against Europe have been collected and republished by the Irish Political Review Group [Irish Foreign Affairs, Church & State] and Athol Press/Belfast Educational Society/ Aubane Historical Society).
