CNN yesterday evening was full of it: breaking news which would leave people stunned, astounded, outraged. It was, of course, that President Donald Trump was recorded talking to Georgia’s top election official, telling him that he needed to find 11,780 votes, because he, Trump, won the election and it just wasn’t fair.
I don’t feel stunned, astounded or outraged. Vote suppression, votes by people who are dead, personation – all these things have been going on in the US and lots of other places, including in Ireland, for years. So check the picture: Trump lost the election, Trump is desperate to somehow turn defeat into victory, so he leans on a Georgia election official. You’re surpised? Oh come on. What did you expect his reaction would be?
And what about the 70 million people who voted for Trump in the election: will they be stunned, outraged, disillusioned with Trump? Listen – probably every one of those 70 million voters had heard another tape, where Trump boasted of grabbing women “by the pussy” and getting them to do his will. You’d think that would repulse any woman listening to it, to the point where she wouldn’t dream of voting for Trump. But millions of them did. And millions more men did. This leaning on the Georgia election official will if anything raise Trump in their estimation, as a guy who is battling against the odds to stay where he is, in the White House. And when Trump visits Georgia today, do you think that the two Republicans running for those seats in the Senate won’t welcome him with open arms? You bet your sweet bippy they will. Trump is a virus which has spread into the hearts of nearly half the US population.
