LETTER TO THE IRISH TIMES – by Donal Kennedy

Letter to THE IRISH TIMES 24 June 2021

 Sir,

“Holier than thou”  posers, of whatever stripe, tend to give me a Heartburn on the  A*** , if you’ll forgive my plagiarism.

Prominent among such posers are correspondents of the group calling itself “Atheist Ireland.”

Human beings in Ireland and throughout the world have been denied the protection and dignity due them. And those doing the denying belonged to many creeds and sects, religious and secular

In Ireland, Catholic and Protestant institutions alike enslaved and punished unmarried mothers and abused their children whilst claiming adherence to the teaching of a Saviour Who saved an adulteress from stoning and reserved His greatest condemnation for those who harmed children. (His next hardest condemnation was for profiteering Holier than Thou Posers!)

Michael Nugent, Chairman, and Jane Donnelly, Human Rights Officer, of “Atheist Ireland” (June 24)  display a laudable support for a democratic republic and defensible concern for secular government.

But their concern for the National Maternity Hospital and the weasel-worded “Reproductive Rights of Women”  must convince your brighter readers that their primary purpose is to ensure even more babies are thrown out with the bath water when their Post-Catholic, Anti-Children Crusade has cleansed the Republic and crushed all opposition.

Yours sincerely

Donal Kennedy
