President Macron plans to promote Colonel Dreyfus, who died peacefully in 1935, to General. His motive is not wholly disinterested, for he wishes to derail the campaign
of a right-wing scoundrel who wants to absolve the Vichy Government of Marshal Petain for its rounding up of Jews and handing them over to the Germans to be murdered.
The scoundrel pleads that only Jewish refugees were so treated, as if that was OK, and not French citizens who happened to be Jewish. In fact French Jews were also
handed over. Anti-Semitism had a long and widely supported history in France in which the Catholic Hierarchy was enthusiastically involved.

When their British allies and those of her own army who could manage it, fled across the Channel in 1940, France had no option but to surrender, The vast majority of France’s elected parliamentarians and those who elected them supported the Government at Vichy. De Gaulle’s Free French might be compared to their OWN disadvantage to today’s Real IRA or Continuity IRA, who have not fled the field. In 1922 the Dail voted by 64 to 57 not to oppose* the Articles of Agreement signed in London, and when de Valera resigned the Presidency and stood again for it he lost by only 2 Dail votes. VICHY was vastly more popular in France than any Free State Government prior to 1932,
The Articles of Agreement were not a Treaty. They were more Threat than Treaty. Treaties are signed between States and the British did not recognise the Irish Republic
nor its Parliament, Dail Eireann despite their establishment and continued endorsement by the Irish electorate. DAIL EIREANN did not RATIFTY the Articles of Agreement,

Colonel Dreyfus, when a Captain was framed as a German spy, stripped of his rank and transported to Devil’s Island, in 1894 where his enemies hoped he would soon die.
In 1898 the novelist, playwright and journalist Emile Zola, in an open letter to President Felix Faure, accused the French Government of conspiring to convict Dreyfus of a crime he did not commit. All hell broke loose, and it is suspected that Zola’s death in 1902 (aged 62) was murder. Eight years later, in 1906 Dreyfus was vindicated, reinstated in the Army and the connection between Church and State, poisonous to both, was severed, Dreyfus served in the Great War and was promoted to Colonel.
A younger French officer, Andre Serot, who served in the Great War, in the Free French Forces during the Second World War, and as an unarmed French Colonel with
the United Nations in Palestine, also reached the rank of Colonel. He was murdered in Jerusalem in 1948, together with the Swedish Count Folke Bernadotte, the United
Mediator in Palestine. Bernadotte was one of two Swedish diplomats who used their diplomatic status to secure the release of many thousands of prisoners who would
otherwise have been murdered by their Nazi captors. Many of those rescued prisoners were Jews. Colonel Serot’s wife was one of the prisoners rescued by Count Bernadotte
and he and the Colonel became firm friends.
The other Swedish diplomat who distinguished himself was Raoul Wallenberg and he is commemorated today far more widely than Bernadotte. Wallenburg disappeared in Hungary in January ‘45 after the Soviet destruction of the Nazis there. He is thought to have died in Russia in the 1950s. It suits humbugs in the West such as Douglas Murray of the Henry Jackson Society, and Gordon Brown, former Prime Minister of Britain, to publicise Wallenburg’s virtues at the expense of that of Bernadotte for two reasons. One is to throw mud at the Russians, and the other is to whitewash the Zionists who murdered Bernadotte and Serot.
According to the Jewish Virtual Library, the murder was carried out by the underground LEHI organisation and Yitshak Shamir is reputed to have organised it and the gunman who fired the fatal shots was called Yehosua Cohen, using a Schmeisser automatic pistol. Shamir served as Israeli Prime Minister in 1983/1984 and 1986/90.

Perhaps President Macron might wish to prove his country’s return to a belief in the Rights of Man by balancing the promotion of the late Colonel Dreyfus to the rank of General by promoting the martyred Colonel Serot to the same exalted rank?
