As Irish External Affairs Minister Frank Aiken promoted nuclear disarmament and was the first signatory of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty in 1968. It was his handiwork, doggedly constructed over 10 years. ( The IRA Chief of Staff during the Civil War on 20 April 1923 ordered his forces to Cease Fire and put their weapons in secure dumps. For the next 50 years he devoted his great energies to domestic and international peace. What Aiken would have thought of the clowning President of Ukraine, and the fawning clowns in today’s Dail Eireann one can only guess.
