I may be wrong but I have never seen a picture of a Pope kissing the flag of a country suffering genocidal attack by Western powers, nor heard of one criticising the actions of any of those powers by name – not the Dutch in Indonesia nor the French in Indo-China nor North Africa, the British in Malaya, Cyprus, Kenya.
Pope Pius XI supported Mussolini’s rape of Abyssinia to the hilt, and also the inhuman monstrous mutineer Francisco Franco and Pope Pius XII congratulated Franco on his “Catholic” victory.
Here the Popes were on the same side as the British Establishment. George V dubbed Mussolini a Knight of the Bath, and the British were happy to oblige him, reneging on their obligations to the Covenant of the League of Nations, and obliging him with passage for his troops and war material through the Suez Canal, for which they charged a fee. The British in Gibraltar facilitated the passage of Italian arms and men to aid Franco. Indeed Franco was airlifted from the Canaries to Morocco by the British agent Hugh Pollard, whom you might learn something about on Wikipedia.
As a Catholic I’m sorry to say that the Papacy has at times sunk to depths below which no human should sink.
