Talkback and the Orange Order

I’ve just listened to as much of Talkback as I could manage.  I found it interesting and informing. Not intentionally, perhaps, but interesting and informing nonetheless.

As I described in a recent blog, unionist politician David McNarry once went ballistic on air, when I suggested that the Orange Order was an anti-Catholic organisation. Called me among other things a rebel (and we know what that’s code for) and stalked out of the studio. William Crawley was as usual the Talkback  presenter and I don’t remember him agreeing with me on the point that had so agitated David McNarry.

Today Crawley on Talkback repeatedly argued that the OO was an anti-Catholic organisation, and cited examples of where this showed. So have the scales over the years fallen from William’s eyes? Or did he know it was anti-Catholic back then as well, but felt it better not to side with me against an enraged unionist politician?

I’m going to be charitable and say the scales have fallen from his eyes. But haven’t they fallen slooooowwwly?
