About 30 years ago a couple I knew decided to indulge their passion for Tory politics by joining the Party (or the Paaty as they call it over there). This led to them being regular attenders at various functions including the Annual Paaty Conference.
They mentioned to me, on a number of occasions, a particular form of behaviour in the Paaty which they had not been expecting. It was then fairly commonplace for young men to be propositioned by more senior men in the manner of “be nice to me and I’ll see your career progresses nicely”.
Not much has changed in the interim it seems although Pincher’s modus operandi is less subtle.
I asked them about whether there was much in the way of heterosexual power plays. Apparently not nearly as common as gay propositioning. More common was young women chasing middle-aged MPs i.e. political groupies. Was Edwin Currie one of those?
