Thirty-four years ago, Aidan McAnespie was shot in the back by a British soldier. Recently, a court finally found the soldier in question guilty of manslaughter. Aidan’s family wept with …what? Relief? Joy? British army veterans’ groups expressed their anger. Is Ireland crazy, that we rejoice in a conviction, even if it takes 34 years and the guilty party will not be punished?
