PONDERINGS OF A MELANCHOLIC – WITH APOLOGIES TO SEAN O COILEAIN (1754-1817) – by Donal Kennedy

August 15th, which the Catholic Church there, as in Ireland, designates a Holy Day. Unlike in Ireland
the day is a Public Holiday in France. Name a day when Irish Catholics are required to attend Mass and you name a Public Holiday in France, Germany and Holland.

Ireland needs Peter Kellner’s  advice   on how to run her affairs as much as France does.

It is a measure  of the success of British brainwashing  that Irishmen like Mr. O’Donnell should
give it such weight.

It’s a pity that  Mr Kellner didn’t earn an invitation into a typical Catholic rural  Kitchen where he   might  have seen represented the Sacred Heart, the Virgin Mary, Theobald   Wolfe Tone and Robert  Emmet.

Anyone who has never seen these traditional icons nor witnessed the veneration  In which they are held knows little of the Irish people, Catholic, Protestant and Dissenter, nor can they have anything worth a damn to say about them.

* Peter Kellner was in West Cork when some locals claimed to see a statue of the Blessed Virgin
  moving.

POSTSCRIPT APRIL 2023
Sean         O Coileain  wrote a melancholic poem in Irish “Macnamh an Duine Dhoiliosaigh”
pondering the ruin of a Franciscan Abbey, destroyed by Cromwell.

There’s a pub beside the ruin, where in about 1989 my wife dropped in to use the Ladies’
and was shocked to see a Durex dispenser that convenience. So much for Peter Kellner’s
clairvoyance.
