Maybe you saw that RTÉ documentary about Dr Noel Browne and his famous Mother and Child scheme. It was a compassionate and enlightened scheme – looking after pregnant mothers and their children until the age of sixteen – but the Catholic Church of the time objected strongly and the Dublin politicians bent the knee and the scheme was abandoned – and Browne’s political career was ruined. And did I mention that none in the medical profession wanted the Mother and Child scheme either?
A man of 74 was last week sent to prison – for the rape and murder of a woman 42 years ago. Forensics were able to prove that he was guilty. Will this mean that people will think twice before offending, since at any point in the future they could be tracked down?
