CAN ONE STATE BE A FRIEND OF ANOTHER? – by Donal Kennedy

During the Irish War of Independence (1919-1921) both the Soviet Union and
the Irish Republic were facing strangulation by a common enemy, Britain,
and co-operated with each other for a while. But when Britain withdrew her
forces from Russia the latter country no longer needed Irish help.
When, shortly after the 1601 Battle of Kinsale, Red Hugh O’Donnell made his
way to Spain seeking further aid against the English. But King Philip made
peace with England at the Treaty of London in 1604. When in 1607 Hugh
O’Neill sought help and refuge in Spain he was shunted off to Rome,
where he was feted and honoured but love for Ireland’s interests was never
a determining factor for other principalities or powers.

The then politically innocent young MP David Lloyd George in 1904 called
on the former Prime Minister Lord Rosebery on the day when the Anglo-French
 Entente was announced

The latter’s first greeting was “Well I suppose you are just as pleased as the rest
of them with this French agreement?”

“I assured him I was delighted that our snarling and scratching relations with France had come to an end at last” said Lloyd George.

“You are all wrong. It means war with Germany in the end” said Rosebery.

The Franco British conspiracy ended with France more damaged than Britain
and victory for it largely due to the arrival of the United States as an associated
 rather than an allied power.

Following the 1918 Armistice  the Kaiser was deposed and the German people
starved by a British imposed blockade and their representatives forced to sign
a false confession for their nation’s sins.

The victors got the spoils. But there was little Cordiality amongst them. The German
Naval Fleet was among them. France and Italy and others claimed shares. But
the British grabbed the lot, and the British Navy escorted it up through the Chanel,
and all the way up to Scapa Floe in the Orkneys, calling at Edinborough.

I watched that awesome display of British power and arrogance on the American
PBS Channel a couple of nights ago. Not perhaps since the Romans destroyed
Carthage, nor when they crucified the Spartacus rebels over many miles of road
were defeated peoples so humiliated. Britain was equipped to rule the earth until
 Doomsday.

Luckily the Germans scuttled their ships in the deep waters of Scapa Floe.

The French under President Macron apparently forget how they were shat  upon
  by their Cordial allies.

They have had British troops mount Guard on the Elysee Palace and had French
 troops reciprocate at Buckingham Palace.

 What cretins!
