The Disgraceful, Disgusting BBC by Joe McVeigh

In the run up to the British General Election on the 4th July,  the BBC came to Enniskillen today (June 19, 2024) to promote the Unionist party and sectarianism,  and also, they say, to celebrate 100 years of the BBC. The BBC has nothing to celebrate. They are a disgrace to public broadcasting.

Just when we are getting over the trauma of the so-called Troubles -along come the BBC people  with their posh English accents to try to undermine Pat Cullen -the Fermanagh/South Tyrone candidate for Sinn Fein. She was invited onto the morning news programme -Radio Ulster- along with the Ulster Unionist candidate – Diana Armstrong, a daughter of the late Unionist leader Harry West, to discuss the issues facing the people of Fermanagh/South Tyrone. Instead Pat Cullen, a former nurse and head of the Nurses Union, was challenged about why she had not condemned the killing of nurses by the IRA. This kind of interrogation by the BBC shows their pro-unionist bias.

The BBC has been promoting unionism and sectarianism on their programmes -on the Nolan show and other shows for many years. They are disgusting and should be condemned for engaging in this line of questioning and confrontation of candidates in an election more than 20 years after the conflict ended.

Why does the BBC never confront Unionists about the 50 years of dictatorship, discrimination and brutality that they carried out while in power in Stormont? How often has the BBC asked Unionists to apologise for their misrule and for the discrimination and violence against Catholics in the six counties?

I have never heard them confront Unionists in the way the woman with the posh English accent confronted Pat Cullen on BBC this morning. Ms Cullen remained calm and offered an explanation for how she tried to comfort people killed and injured during the conflict. However, that was not good enough for the BBC buffoons with their political agenda. They only wanted to hear the Sinn Fein candidate condemning the IRA for actions that happened years ago. They were not interested in what Pat Cullen has to offer to the people of Fermanagh and South Tyrone today and into the future. Shame on the BBC.

No doubt Pat Cullen will be subjected to further attacks by the BBC. This is all a very deliberate ploy to undermine and discredit the republican candidate in the upcoming election. Shame on the BBC.

Asking Pat to condemn the IRA is as pointless as bringing up SF’s abstentionist policy. A waste of air time. Anti Republican propaganda which will have no affect on SF voters.
