For fifty years or more I have offered my opinion on serious matters in letters,
articles and blogs, giving my name and often my full postal address, and even
mug-shots.
I do not claim infallibility and I will happily stand corrected if necessary.
Nobody pays me for my opinions nor would I change them for a price.
Which distinguishes me from many commentators in professorial and
editorial chairs laden with Orders of Chivalry.
In February 1982, following nine months’ writing of longhand letters to
the old Press Council complaining of deliberate lying by THE TIMES
the Press Council upheld my complaint. That evening I turned on
the TV to see the paper’s Editor, Harold Evans acclaimed EDITOR
OF THE YEAR, by fellow Editors including the then Editor-in Chief
OF THE YEAR, by fellow Editors including the then Editor-in Chief
of THE OBSERVER, Conor Cruise O’Brien.
Most of the British Media, and much of the Irish Media and Academia
are in the pocket of the British Foreign Office, MI6 and MI5.
Why any Editor accepts anonymous or pseudonymous comments I
cannot understand.
I will be very happy to defend what I have written here to any challenger
with the courage to show their name and face.
