An early draft.
There are limitations
As to how Irish I can be.
Not just me, but for many northerners.
Many others who stand beside me.
We carry much the same baggage
And experience it in our bones.
I am not alone
For we have drunk the water
The isotope and the Irish signature.
Your bones will not leave a record
Of your denomination in years to come.
For religion is not a marker.
Neither genetic or blood based
It can be passed on
From family to family.
Merely an idea, it hides in our heads.
But the water you have drunk
Will remain within you for a millenia.
This water that cuts through rock
Will not stop there, as it will flow through
Dogma, lies, hatred and divisive politics.
But, by using this signature together
We cannot be separated.
Nor can we be divided.
It can tell us where the Irish nation
Has migrated From.
From everywhere, other than Ireland.
From beyond hatred, in search of love.
Let us hope we eventually find it here
Amongst ourselves.
