PAT+JUDE TALK ABOUT MICHAEL LOWRY’S FINGERS & 8 MINUTES, TRUMP’S TARIFFS ON RoI, & MONEY v MEDICINE

This week again, the Dail exploded into anger and insult. Micheál Martin hinted that Sinn Féin had never really liked the Dail (see what he did there?) and Sinn Féin and the combined opposition denounced his handing of speaking time to Michael Lowry’s group of TDs, as if they were  part of the opposition, rather than a group who have vowed to stand by the government in ‘fair weather and foul’. And what about Verona Murphy – should she continue in place as Cean Comhairle, given that she’s clearly lost the respect of the combined opposition?

Trump’s tariffs are heading for Ireland. Should the South be afraid, very afraid? After all, a 200% tariff on your product just about puts you out of business in many cases.

Finally there was that investigation that established that many operations on children were unnecessary – in other words, the medicos appear to have been paying closer attention to the big bucks involved and not nearly sufficient attention to the welfare of their patients. So does that mean we should spit the next time we hear someone say “Trust me, I’m a doctor”?

This and so much more to set you up for the weekend….

Jude/Pat, regarding the Micheal Martin 8 minute saga. Of course its not all about 8 Minutes. It’s also about the reconfiguration of time allotted for the Taoiseach to answer leaders Questions, which a recent publication said it could be reduced by as much as 59 minutes.

Also, if you want some bit of an idea of what the public really feels about all this. in a recent poll, 56% of the Journal readers, said Verona Murphy should go, 36% said she should stay, with 8% don’t knows.
