Our favourite Irish Times columnist is on the warpath again today, and has pilloried Sinn Féin for its ‘narrow nationalism’. It seems the South is going to devote a full year to celebrate the arrival in Ireland of the Normans. Stephen Collins dismisses the Shinners for trying to project themselves as MOPE – the most oppressed people ever. Yes, I know, Virginia – it’s the same Normans that plundered and raped, seized Irish property, punished those who didn’t abandon their native language and culture. Isn’t it good we have Stephen to speak up for the poor wee Normans?
Some like to heap all the blame on Netanyahu for the tidal wave of blood flowing through Gaza. A recent poll in Israel suggests it just might be more widespread than the Israeli PM.
And there was a time when the PSNI showed great promise as a new policing service for NEI. Alas, that day appears to have passed, if you check the figures for people from a Catholic background.
