In the South of Ireland, the presidential race totters on, with just two candidates left, Catherine Connolly and Heather Humphreys. The polls and the bookies say that Catherine Connolly (btw, do you have to have matching initials – CC,HH – to run for office?) is as good as home and hosed, but the pundits and TV programmes talk about ‘hard to separate them’ and ‘both had their moments’. Not just that but former FG bigwig Ivan Yates is alleged to have suggested that FG needs to look lively and ‘smear the bejasus out of her’ (to wit, CC). Are our media really fair-minded?
Would you hire someone who had been found guilty of rape and had served their time? Should people be punished once or for the rest of their lives?
Finally, Micheál Martin’s chosen candidate was the former candidate Jim Gavin. What has that done to the FF leader’s ability to lead and his reputation in general. Hit the button – we’re both full of piss and vinegar today….
