Will I tell you the kind of person I admire? Someone who believes something is wrong and who refuses to back down until it’s righted. Myself, I don’t think I have the staying power – I’d get fed up with the emotional effort of fighting the good fight. In fact I suspect the Irish people generally aren’t all that good in that department. Whereas an Englishman/woman, with the bit of Principle of the Thing between their teeth, can gallop for years.
But it’s not confined to English people. Some Irish people have it. One is on my mind in particular at the moment, because I’ve just visited the Irish Times website and I find myself slapping my thigh, grinning and yelling things like ” Yee -ha!” and “You go, girl!”. One up for the good guys, I call it. Check it yourself – and if you don’t feel a bolt of pure schadenfreude pulse through your body, don’t even think of coming back to this site…No, only kidding. But it is a nice one, isn’t it? Now I wonder what the sum came to exactly…
PS I think Stephen Rae ( the actor) should sue for defamation of character…

Jude, I would imagine that the lady in question also had the full support of the Irish Union of Journalists, who, as you could imagine, would not feel too beholden to the Indo and Sindo.
Many people take in the anti-trade union propaganda of Tory style management, but this is a clear example of what can be achieved when people work together.
I would actually have preferred to have read the Indo version of this story, as I love to see a ‘labour of love’ through gritted teeth.

I do however agree the Irish people generally aren’t good at staying the distance in a fight to the bitter end, more through laziness and couldn’t be bothered attitude, we have a nation of keyboard warriors and moaners and it’s probably the reason we spent so many years under the rule of the British crown. (still ruling 6 counties, while their oppressive laws are still being used across the borders in a Banana Republic run by corrupt fascist politicians to oppress ordinary people). where I’m ashamed to say i’m Irish.
Gemma fought her case knowing she was the right when she refused to let a biased media take her character, Its always a great driving force.
Gemma is an inspiration to other Journalist’s not to take the media dictatorship from corporations like the Irish Independent and Irish Times where free speech is stifled and news is not real but a twisted version of truth to appease political ego’s.
I pray for the day when journalist’s in our banana Republic actually start reporting the truth and expose the gangster politicians and corporations stripping Ireland bare.
Lets face the facts there is no media on the Island of Ireland just a version of what government want all of us to believe.
