I downloaded this book last night and recommend it highly to anyone who hasn’t got it yet. I initially opted for the ‘sample’ download but knew after a couple of pages that I wanted the whole book and clicked to buy it.
Since then, I’ve read the first three stories. which brought me right back, with delighted recognition, to the mid 20th century childhood experience. As short stories these are perfectly crafted. They do what short story should, leave the reader moved with that sense of having received a gift of something profoundly moving and beautiful.
Congratulations on what promises to be a favourite book. I’ll probably have more to say when I get as far as booing the bishop.
