1916 BAD FOR IRISH BUSINESS by Donal Kennedy

A TV News Report the other day showed a non-military target in the Yemen blasted from the air by the Saudis. It was a plant owned by a Yemeni educated in Britain, who wondered why the bombs had been manufactured there, for we were shown the remnants of one manufactured by Marconi, a British firm.

Marconi was once connected in the public mind with David Lloyd George, and another politician, Rufus Isaacs. In the public mind both were linked to  “THE MARCONI SCANDAL” concerning  dodgy dealing in Marconi shares. But such artful dodgers were they that one became Prime Minister, and the other the judge who presided at the trial of Roger Casement, and was elevated to the peerage as Lord Reading.

But before becoming Prime Minister, Lloyd George became Chancellor of the Exchequer and then Minister for Munitions. In March 1916 he was introduced, by John Redmond, to Irish businessmen who extracted contracts for  the manufacture,  in Ireland, of war material. They pressed on him also the re-equipment of a factory in Dublin’s Parkgate Street, so that there would be 1400 full-time jobs in the manufacture of munitions, to kill Germans, Austrians and Turks.

How unfortunate it was that the profits of Irish capitalist patriots were aborted by the unbusinesslike hotheads who staged their little stunts in Easter Week? Generations of foreigners yet unborn were spared being obliterated by ordnance stamped “Deanta in Eirinn.”

Do you think Britain and its allies should have allowed Germany to invade Belgium and France?

Britain was not formally allied with France. If Britain had clearly indicated that an attack on Belgium, or France would have been followed by a British declaration of war it is probable that Germany would not have attacked both. Britain had egged on Italy to attack Libya in 1909, TE
Lawrence had been spying in other Ottoman lands. A British naval “Coiurtesy” visit to Constantinople was used for spying on Gallipoli. Gallipoli had been held out as a reward to
Russia,. Franc, which had attacked Prussia in 1870 and lost was plotting revenge for years.
For 10 years before 1914 Britain had been plotting the crushing of Germany.
“In the year 1904,on the day when the Anglo-French Entente was announced, I arrived in Dahomey on a couple of days’ visit to see Lord Rosebery. His first greeting to me was:’Well,I
suppose you are just as pleased as the rest of them with this French agreement?’ I assured him I was delighted that our snarling and scratching relations with France had come to an end at last. He replied:’You are all wrong. It means war with Germany in the end.”

First Paragraph Chapter 1, Volume 1, War Memoirs by David Lloyd George
IRELAND had no quarrel, no grievance, no justifiable reason to go to war with Germans, Austrians or Turks, nor to be an accomplice in Britain’s treacherous and murderous adventures..

There’s a mistake in the quotation from Lloyd George which does not alter my argument – but
no doubt the eagle-eyed MT will have seen it.

Another mistake of mine -Constantinople was held out as bait to the Russians. Britain fought, as allies of the Turks in the Crimean war to deny Constantinople (a warm water port) to the
Russians. The TURKS in their gratitude allowed Britain a base in Cyprus.
British strategic priorities shifted and Constantinople was held out as a prize to the Russians.
And, the British, like a Cuckoo in the nest, seized Cyprus for itself.

The Bolshevik spoilsports discovered the secret agreements on dividing the spoils of the Great War -and PUBLISHED THEM! Perfidious Albion and TSARIST Russia and France
were exposed as the hypocrites they were.
Incidentally. Britain’s King Edwatd VII played a key role in the Entente Cordial, using the
relatively harmless cover of a whoring tourist or touring whorist on his Paris visits.
