Britain would have a far greater future opting out of the EU and in fact reforming the UK to include other parts of the commonwealth and reducing the monarchy to England only making the new union a more federal arrangement.
Ireland would indeed be worse off on two counts. There would be a double border with passports required at both the land border and the channel border.
We can deal with this by leaving the UK through the GFA, but I agree, it wont happen.
If there was to be a new less monarchy based economic union throughout the commonwealth then I would rather Ireland was part of it than in the EU.
