Part 2 recalled the British Press Council’s condemnation of THE DAILY EXPRESS and THE DAILY STAR for publishing an untruth previously published in THE TIMES and previously condemned by the Press Council.
I didn’t explain that both the Daily Express and the Daily Star published the untruth simultaneously as part of an attack on Greater London Council leader Ken Livingstone for
meeting with Gerry Adams and Danny Morrison of Sinn Fein in 1982. The Daily Express and The Daily Star had common owners and their embracing and spreading of an identical
untruth may not surprise you.
But THE DAILY MAIL simultaneously published the same flaming lie, and I complained to the Press Council, to no avail.. For the flaming liar who wrote the Daily Mail’s copy was Sir Humphrey Atkins, Her Britannic Majesty’s former Secretary of State for Northern Ireland.
A year or two later Atkins was raised to the Peerage as Lord Colnbrook and appointed to the Press Complaints Commission, the Press Council’s successor. I think you may infer that British Governments and the most influential British media have a sordid incestuous relationship and they are not to be trusted.
Dominic Kennedy and Oliver Kamm and the Editor of THE TIMES pose as investigative journalists and moral commentators when writing of Vladimir Putin and Russian media. Pots may call Kettles black, but, can those who live in Glass Houses really afford to throw stones?
The rot at the heart of the Westminster / Whitehall nexus is so blatant we’ve learned not to notice it.
It’s getting even more blatant, First Division (cough…) Civil Servants walk straight into City of London sinecures,and nobody blinks an eye.
AND they still get their knighthoods and peerages…
