”  CATUESQUE

PIC 1:       Cats on Malta think they own the place.

PIC 2.     Small wonder: behind this Tow Zone is a Miaoww Zone.   Well nigh every street on the island has its own unofficial Feeding Spot for cats. Local ladies (always ladies, many retired British dears from Blighty) take it upon themselves to feed the strays, twice a day. So good is the grub that it’s said domestic cats have deserted the life of the house in droves for the life of the street.

PiC 3:     Some years ago, there was a play called ‘Bog of Cats’, staged at the Abbey Theatre, Dublin 1. A distinguished slice of fake-folkey feline tosh, it was rapturously acclaimed by the predictable drama crits of Dublin. If it had even been called ‘Bog of Moggies’ it mightn’t have been a total write off. Malta is the island moggies dream of.

PIC 4:     This is the Bainisteoir of this particular Miaoww Zone. Note the characteristic cat walk of a certain Cody. Could he be of Kilkenny stock?

Lucky you Perkin. Just got back from sunny Australian myself. Love the pics .

Funny that, Moser, a chara. Australia is where many Maltese dream of going to – and did so in droves, in the past. (When the Assisted Passage Scheme was in bloom).

It’s thought there are more Maltese Downunder than in the Med.

I admire the unpretentious style of Perkin’s photography but he clearly knows as much about drama as Donal Lavery does of economics. I saw ‘Bog of Cats’ at the Abbey in 2015. It was superb.

Drama critics differ, John, a chara, and so too do sniffer dogs get high – not least when they a cat spy.

Saw ‘Bog of Cats’ back in 1998, when it was first produced. And thought it was – what’s the word? – cat. Mind you, one’s pal thought it was ever more cat – he upped and left at the interval.

PS Glad you like the cat-snaps.
