President Franklin D Roosevelt was quite frank when asked why he supported a universally recognised sonofabitch. “He’s OUR sonofabitch” he replied. His equally plainspoken successor, Harry S Truman, when asked why he had never spoken up for mistreated Arabs in Palestine, is reputed to have answered that he didn’t know any Arabs on the US electoral register. Both men were exercising the right of free expression guaranteed by the First Amendment to the US Constitution. The collected Amendments known as the Bill of Rights.
A perverse reading of the Amendment about a citizen’s right to bear arms, or, more likely, total ignorance of its wording and 18th century context, promises to make mass murder
compete with apple pie in the American Homeland whilst that Republic exists.
But the First Amendment is under powerful attack. Julian Assange, whose heroic exposure of the high crimes and low tactics of American leaders and their willing fellow criminals,of the same order as earned Nazi leaders the hangman’s rope at Nuremburg, is in hospital in Britain’s most escape-proof prison, awaiting transfer to the tender mercies of the Land of The Free and the Home of The Brave.
The cowardly. craven NEW YORK TIMES has ceased or suspended publication of all political cartoons.
It recently published a cartoon depicting Benjamin Netanyahu as a Guide Dog leading a blind Donald Trump.
Hardnosed, brass-necked and rhinoceros-skinned Zionists, both Jew and Gentile, affected horror. I’m sure Mr Netanyahu is aware of Harry Truman’s advice to those who can’t
stand the heat – (Get Out of the Kitchen). He may act like a Yahoo, but he’s no fool.
I think canines might justifiably resent the cartoon, and Donald Trump more justifiably. Netanyahu and Trump understand their symbiotic relationship. Israel props up American and other Imperial interests – even to the contemptible boycotting of Cuba. America sustains Israel.
The Financial Times reckons that the Irish lobby is the second most powerful in Washington after the Israeli one. It is at least as much materialistic as sentimental. Ireland is America’s Airstrip 2 in the Eastern Atlantic and does very nicely out of the bargain, and should do so until the balloon goes up. (An expression used in Col Blimp’s heyday)
“TOP OF THE WORLD, MA!” as Cody Jarrett, (played by James Cagney), exulted in “WHITE HEAT.”
