Today, in the south of Ireland, is National Go Slow Day (something like that, anyway). It is a day when people are asked to make a concerted effort not to speed. So far, near to 250 people have been caught speeding by the gardaí . What’s more, over 130 people have died on the south’s roads this year – so far. Isn’t it time that we put a stop to a system that’s allowing an innocent person to be killed every second day?
And apologies. Brian Stanley of Sinn Féin has apologised for mentioning the Narrow Water killing of 18 British soldiers with the killing of nearly as many at Kilmichael in 1920. Are social media engaged in a witch-hunt, digging out from the past every possible non-U tweet?
Those sound like two fairly tame topics. Believe me, when Pat McArt gets going, nothing stays tame. Oh, and yes, occasionally I toss in a word or two.
