At the time of writing, it looks as though Labour have won the Dublin Bay South by-election. This is baaad news for Fine Gael, bad new for Fianna Fail who scarcely figured – but what about Sinn Féin? Weren’t they supposed to have been in a head-to-head battle with FG?
Another Bay – Tiger’s Bay in Belfast – has built a bonfire close to the New Lodge. Belfast City Council wants it transferred to a less provocative point, but the PSNI has refused protection for contractors who might do the transferring. Sir Jeffrey says it should stay where it is and nationalists should learn to respect unionist culture. Mmmm….
