COALS TO NEWCASTLE, HOARES TO PARIS, AND A CLOWN TO LEINSTER HOUSE by Donal Kennedy

In 1935 British Foreign Secretary Sir Samuel Hoare made a pact with the French Prime Minister, Pierre Laval, to allocate most of Abyssinia, which belonged  to neither Britain nor France, to Italy, then ruled by Benito Mussolini.

Public opinion in Britain was sufficiently enlightened to disapprove and Hoare had to resign.

NO MORE COALS TO NEWCASTLE -NO MORE HOARES TO PARIS was how the story was told.

Sir Samuel was a lucky Hoare as he suffered little for the deal. Pierre Laval was shot for treason in October 1945 after a failed attempt to poison himself.

In 1917, serving in Rome as head of 100 MI5 agents, Hoare had arranged for British money to subsidise IL POPOLO D’ITALIA ,the paper owned and edited by Benito Mussolini.

In 1923 Mussolini was dubbed a Knight of the Bath by Britain’s King George V. He  remained in good odour with the British Establishment until Italy attacked France in 1940.

The upcoming visit of Ukraine President Zelensky of Ukraine to Leinster House might be likened to BRINGING COALS TO NEWCASTLE..

It should be accompanied by the line “SEND IN THE CLOWNS – DON’T BOTHER – THEY’RE HERE.”

Dail Eireann once had statesmen who served our nation and the international community well.

Under Eamon de Valera and Frank Aiken, Ireland, armed with  nothing but principles and  cool heads, punched well above her weight internationally..

Alone at the League of Nations, Ireland insisted that all the Nations should honour its Covenant and impose effective sanctions on aggressors.

De Valera repeatedly warned that failure to honour the charter would lead to a catastrophic war. He was proven right.

At the United Nations Frank Aiken put eight years of hard work into promoting the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and was invited to Moscow to be its first signatory.

Ukraine under Zelensky,,his American Puppet- Masters and their sycophantic cronies are aping the Hoares and Lavals of the 1930s.

Men and women of the Irish Defence Forces have served the world community loyally, in contrast with their nearest neighbours. One example bears my assertion out.

I can recall reading of British forces in Cyprus, ordered to take part in peace-keeping on behalf of the United Nations, reacted with contempt of the world community

Units of the Parachute Regiment paraded under their officers on a barrack square and burned the blue berets of the United Nations.

Do the current members of the Oireachtas and the Defence Forces really want to join the Bandit Regimes hell-bent on the destruction of life on our planet. Are they really clowns?
