I recently watched a programme on the hunting of whales and polar bears on the northern coasts of  Alaska.

It shocked me.

 One of the hunters, a man of about forty, told how he had been put in a school where he was hit with a stick whenever he was heard to speak his own language. It was a language his ancestors had spoken in that place before it had been sold to the United States by a Czar of Russia and even before the Russians had acquired it.

 The leading power of the Free World and its cronies have never been happy with cultural diversity. 

 Basques, Bretons, Welsh, Irish and Scots Gaelic speakers, for instance suffered in Western Europe, and the natives of other lands suffered at the hands of European Imperialists.

The Catholic Church, amongst others, inflicted dehumanisng penalties on colonised nations. 

 In Ireland, as the British Empire spread, Church leaders co-operated with the De-Gaelicisation of the nation. 

 I suppose we’re Benthamite Utilitarians, keen to see English-speaking Irish missionaries inflicting cultural genocide on the British Empire’s Lesser Breeds. 

 A President of St Patrick’s College, Maynooth. opposed the Gaelic League campaign to make competence in Irish a  requirement for Matriculation.

Fortunately he failed.

But, as Archbishop of Melbourne, Daniel Mannix redeemed himself.

 In 1914 he condemned Britain’s attack on Germany as a squalid trade war. He ensured that Australians were not conscripted.

 In 1920, during the Tan terror in Ireland,Dr Mannix made Lloyd War reveal himself as a fool before the whole world, including much of the British Press.

 Back to Language, Cultural Genocide and The Free World.

 The Church’s attitude to language lost its  Utilitarian bearings. As mass (lower case) travel took off it jettisoned the Latin Mass. Hundreds of millions of people who were familiar with the Latin, when they travelled, were unable to follow the Liturgy as they went about. I arrived to work in London in November in miserable weather 1964 and was in miserable digs. I had been interviewed in Dublin for a job as a booking clerk on the Tube and working either dawn or midnight shifts.

  I was told “You’ll be pied to die hat ‘Anger Line” and I reckoned that Cockney Hinglish was the most “Orrible sahnd wot hever heminated from Hanimal Horifice.”

 I found some solace at weekly Mass. I was there about 6 weeks when Latin was jettisoned. What philistinism!

 Not an enlightened moment, nor even a Utilitarian one in the Church’s history.

 As a Dead Language  Latin is clear and unambiguous.

 English changes rapidly.

 My generation reading the words “making love” had the wit to take them for “wooing.” 

 Later generations might construe them as “screwing.” 

 If Latin was as fickle as English the Church would be a Tower of Babel or a What? of Babylon.

 A few years ago there was a quarrel within a monoglot Irish-speaking family in the island of Leitir Mor over a lottery win. It went to a Judge and Jury. The State could not find Judge, Barristers or Jury Persons in the Connacht Gaeltacht to conduct the case in Irish. No advance there on the 1882 case when about five  members of the Joyce family were hanged after a trial where they had not understood a word of the case.

 I do not know how the Czars dealt with the language of the indigenous people of Alaska.

 In the Soviet Union under Stalin the indigenous languages of the republics were taught and respected. Stalin, warts and all, was more liberal than Oliver Cromwell. During one battle in England, the Lord Protector’s troops murdered Welsh women, thinking they had been speaking Irish.

The current Ukrainian regime has banned the teaching of Russian within the territory it holds. Both Russian and Ukrainian were formerly taught there. The Ukrainian regime is adhering to the cultural genocidal practices and principles of THE FREE WORLD
